Today, with emphasis on prevention rather than treatment of the ill, institutions are developing health promotion and wellness programmes for the community and the public at undergraduate level. The Department of Public and Community Health is structured to allow students receive both practical and theoretical knowledge and apply them for health care management. Job opportunities in Public and Community Health are excellent as there are numerous opportunities available in the National Health Service, Local and State governments, international organizations and the private sector.




Objectives


The objectives of the programme are to




1.            Produce graduates who will function efficiently in the various health sectors, hospitals, preventive and public health services.


2.            Produce graduates with the capabilities of solving health problems at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.


3.            Equip the students with the requisite analytical skills to engage in research and critical scientific evaluation.


4.            Provide sound knowledge of modern trends in health care delivery and management.


5.            Prepare graduates with self-reliant skills enabling them to become employers of labour.


6.            Offer standard training that would enable the graduates build further professional knowledge for skill obtained, and use such knowledge for service to the public and community and humanity.
