Department of Physical Sciences




The Department of Physical Sciences currently runs two programmes; B.Sc. in Energy and Petroleum Studies and B.Sc. in Physics and Electronics. The two programmes emphasize the dual need for technological innovation and energy use, especially as technology is powered by energy. The department aims at developing in the students the necessary skills, practical knowledge, civics, leadership and intellectual excellence that will enable our graduates excel in the public and private sectors worldwide.







Objectives



The programme will equip the students with the knowledge and practical skills that will help them in the sustainable application of knowledge in solving contemporary challenges. As such the objectives are to







1.            Demonstrate contemporary best practices, techniques and knowledge that will enable them to improve business competitiveness and ensure regulatory compliance.



2.            Apply pertinent skills for the supply, sourcing and procurement portfolio strategies in the energy industry especially the oil and gas sectors.



3.            Apply the relevant analytical skills and methods for energy audit, risk analysis and energy policy analysis.



4.            Use the appropriate research skills for keeping abreast with new and emerging developments, technologies and regulations in the wider energy industries.
