Adebayo Fabiyi attributes performance to a biblical philosophy, sleep and food deprivation

Mr. Adebayo Fabiyi became the best graduating student at the National Open University of Nigeria with a CGP of 4.88 in Environmental Science and Resource Management.





In an interview with Olaleye Aluko, he attributed his performance to some extreme study habits which include sleep deprivation and occasional skipping of meals during the preoperative weeks to exams. Fabiyi who is a 35 years old father of three expressed his gratitude to his understanding wife and children who respected his study-space and assisted him in staying awake while studying.


I skipped meals, slept few hours during exams


He said he stayed awake to study and would sometimes only get an hour of sleep. He often feel heavy and sleepy after eating so in order to avoid the after effect of eating, he skipped meals. 


Fabiyi is an indigene of Lagos State who had already obtained an HND in Chemistry from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State. He expressed his desire to have a bachelor’s degree and opted for the distance education because of his inability to be a full time student due to his very busy schedule. His initial intention was to study Environmental Chemistry but the National Open University didn’t offer that course so he settled with pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Resource Management.


He said his aim was to get 5 CGP but ended with a 4.88 and intends on getting a five point when he eventually starts his Master’s degree. 


He expressed is believe the biblical philosophy of Ecclesiastes 9:10 of ‘whatever is worth doing is worth doing well’ which is part of the Wisdom of King Solomon. “My motto was that whatever your hands find to do, do it very well” he said.


He concluded that his wife seemed more excited than everyone else at the convocation ceremony because she said that she couldn’t imagine being congratulated on behave of her husband performance from top professors. The ceremony was on January 20, 2018.
