An awful incident took place yesterday morning (October 26 2017) as some female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka were thrown out of their hostel while undergoing their Industrial Training.

Confirming the incident was one of the affected students who narrated what took place that fateful morning around 11am. It was gather that the hostel supervisor of Isakaita hostel at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), went around the girls hostel like a Town’s Crier shouting that all occupants should vacate the premises within 30 minutes.

Displaced students of UNN

The announcement came as a shock to the student who confronted the hostel administrator about the rationale behind such announcement. They argued that they had already paid N1000 (one thousand naira) for the temporary accommodation and were on their Industrial Training Program. They said their colleagues in the Agriculture and Education department were on the fields working (at the farm and school respectively). They objected to the hostile nature of the announcement, asked the supervisor to consider their mates who were oblivious to this new development and pleaded to be given more time to prepare.

However, some of the girls claimed their rights, saying they don’t have anywhere to go, and the school management ought to have given them enough time before issuing a quit notice. They felt it was the responsibility of the school to provide them with accommodation while they do their project and ensure their security by not turning them to destitute at such a vulnerable time of their studies.

Unaware to them, the school had already made arrangement to forcefully kick them and their properties out, as the hostel supervisor threaten to call the security.

According to an eyewitness, UNN Security raided the hostel within 10 minutes of the warning and started displacing the student with brutality. It was both physical and verbal abuse as they forcefully throw everyone out while calling them derogatory names like prostitutes, witches, bitches and what not.
