Half of the teachers in Kaduna failed primary 4 exams ~ El Rufai laments

On Tuesday (13th September 2017); In a meeting with chiefs and traditional rulers from Southern Kaduna, Governor Nasir El-Rufai made a shocking revelation when he lamented the poor academic performance of Kaduna State students sent overseas for their higher education.
He expressed shock over what he described as “shameful performance of the students because their academic performance in secondary schools back home were ‎convincing enough that they would do better outside Nigeria.” He further announced that the affected students on scholarship were being withdrawn and sent back to Nigeria.

The governor also disclosed that fifty percent (50%) of teachers in Kaduna State were excluded for re-appointment as tutors because they failed the primary 4 examination set for them as prerequisite for their reinstatement into the civil service.
In regards to the unconventional but elementary screening test, El-Rufai said; “This is a clear demonstration of the government’s effort towards improving teachers capacity for effective teaching and learning in public schools.”

The traditional leaders, led by Emir of Jama’a, Alhaji Muhammadu Isah Muhammadu said they decided to embark on a courtesy visit to the governor in order to convey the gratitude they collectively had over the recent re-opening of tertiary institutions shot down in Southern Kaduna, since December 2016, due to the frequent communal clashes and insecurity in the region.

Stakeholders applauded the state government for investing N312 million for Teacher Professional Development (TPD) last year.

  1. Remember that those teachers have families and has to feed them, many don't have anyother skills and can only be teachers. The governor should provide them with alternative source of income.
