Governments’ inability to pay salary is affecting private universities - VC

It is well known that Nigeria is going through hash economic challenges as various tiers of government has failed in their responsibility to promptly pay government worker.

In a report by Godwin Oghre of Vanguard Newspaper, the former acting Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Prof. Otete Okobiah, has linked the paucity of funds in running private universities to the inability of the various tiers of government to pay workers’ salaries as at when due.

She then appealed to staffs of the university and parent to result to divine intervention through prayers. This might come across as a cry for help without providing solution or constructive proposals to the problem. I hope that the school is able to raise funds through other means like donation, research and seminars.

As scientist, we must understand that change is inevitable and we are currently experiencing negative change, so it is only those who are able to adapt that would survive. This is a time to brainstorm until they are able to find opportunities in providing-solutions to this problem. The economic recession is affecting all area of life as people spend less due to lack of funds, so it’s not only private universities that are affected, even private businesses and their owners are affected as less money is in circulation and people are reluctant to spend.
