Dimeji Bankole laments Nigeria’s falling standard of Education





The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole lamented about the falling standard of educetion in the country yesterday, at the Grand Finale of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Ogun State Unit maiden Secondary Schools competition appealed to the teachers to instill good moral into their students.


Bankole who spoke in Abeokuta, urged all tiers of government to look into the situation saying: “I think is not rocket science that the standard is not what it should be. I believe the government whether State or Federal should look into the situation and hopefully things will get better for the future of the country.


“I think students all over Nigeria are always ready to rise up to any challenge the authorities give to them, I hope and I pray our system works towards not giving the students a serious challenge.


On his opinion on what the fundamental focus should be, Bankole said “I am still observing and when I finish my observations, I will give you my fundamental focus. This is my first time in such event and I am grateful that I was invited to come and look and observe how our kids are enjoying education and learning from it”.


The MSSN B-Zone Amir, Alhaji Mushafau Kehinde Alaran in his speech commended the court ruling in Lagos State on the usage of hijabs in schools, saying “We are happy with the judgement. It made us to believe in Nigeria judiciary”.


He urged all the State Governors to allow the usage of hijabs in the schools, stressing that there shouldn’t be any agitation before the students could be allow to wear hijab to schools.


"Don’t allow us to agitate before we can wear it, don’t allow us to agitate to know our right because wearing it, is our right”.


He enjoined all Nigerians to be tolerant, insisting “The society is going to disarray because we fail to follow the instruction and disrespect to our creator”.


The Cleric disclosed that the MSSN was in full support of the anti-graft war of President Muhammadu Buhari and therefore appealed to all Nigerians to be patient with the present administration.


"We appreciate the anti-graft war of this present administration, we want all asundry to imbibe it. Let us be patient with him in his move to look for an eligatarian society. What the President is fighting is a culminated situation moreover Rome was not built in a day. We must all exercise caution to feel the impact of good governance”


On the elongation of the Eid-el-Filtri celebration, Alaran said ” Muslims are not lazy, we are assiduous. We should not be castigate for whatever reason. I employ all the people to abide with what that is preach in churches and mosques”.


Alaran urged all the nations of the world to embrace peace.


He said ” This is a global challenge. Let us allow peace to reign and do things with the fear of the Lord that they will account for everything they have done”.


The Unit President, Alhaji Saheed Amisu said that the MSSN National President, Malam Muhammad Jemeel at NEC meeting in Minna, Niger state identified the need to empower secondary schools hence the reason why they staged the competition.


He lamented that secondary schools which was known for academic and moral excellence was now known for theatre of criminal activities.


Amisu commended the State government for their efforts towards education development in the State and called on the government to expedite action in completing the building of the model schools.


He charged the ministry of education to encourge moral education in the schools in the State, insisting “MSSN believes that this effort will go a long way in encouraging our young ones to stand for academic excellence”.
